San Luis Valley Recharge Optimization Project
ZGC has been proud to partner with the Mosca-Hooper CD and Hasbrouck Geophysics to take on a mini-exploration project north of Alamosa in the San Luis Valley. For the full website, please visit: https://soilcarboncoalition.org/html/slv/rop.html
Our mission is to try to determine how we can best influence recharge of the shallow aquifer system to assist our SLV farmers and ranchers with potential recovery of their water table. We used electrical resistivity imaging (ERI) to peer beneath the soils southwest of Mosca on Nissen Farms. On the main website, you can view the resulting images and our interpretations of them. Below is a small GIF of a model created in RockWorks using several dozen well logs from the area. There is also a larger KMZ file available for download below the GIF. This model is by no means a perfect image of the subsurface, but rather best-guess interpolations between wells spaced fairly far apart. The ERI images, where they overlap the model, generally correlate quite well.
Keep an eye on this page for more updates as we add information developed from our time on the ground in 2019!
